NHS funded fertility referrals
If you wish to be considered for NHS treatment and investigation you should visit your GP and inform them that you are having difficulty conceiving and wish to be referred to the Shropshire and Mid Wales Fertility Centre in Shrewsbury. The GP may book you some initial blood tests and possibly a semen analysis for your partner. If you have been trying to conceive for more than 12 months, they will refer you to our specialist service.

Hospital appointments
Once your GP has referred you to the fertility Centre you should receive a hospital appointment at either Severn Fields Health Village, Shrewsbury or the Princess Royal Hospital (PRH) for yourself and your partner. At this appointment you will see one of the specialist fertility nurses. The nurse will take a medical history from you and will ask you a series of questions. At this stage the nurse will also book a series of blood tests and if necessary semen analysis tests.
First hospital appointments
Once you have completed your tests, within 12 weeks of being seen by the nursing staff, you should receive your first appointment to see the Medical staff. You will see either a Consultant gynaecologist or a specialist who will review your tests and book any further investigations that you require. If the Doctor is able, they will give you a diagnosis and book you in for treatment. A list of the treatments available to NHS Patients can be found on the NHS Fertility Treatments page.
More information about the staff that work at the Fertility Centre can be found on our Meet the team page.
